Overview

An exceptionally powerful Sleeping Draught, the Draught of Living Death causes effects similar to suspended animation, and was taught to Sixth years at Hogwarts School. Its effects could be counteracted by the Wiggenweld Potion.

It typically takes just over an hour to brew, and the standard recipe to brew the potion was to add the infusion of wormwood, followed by the root of asphodel, then stir twice clockwise. After this, the sloth brain should be added, followed by the sopophorous bean's juice, then seven anti-clockwise stirs to complete the potion.

Severus Snape offered two edits to the potion in his potions textbook - crushing the sopophorous bean to extract more juice versus cutting it, and adding a clockwise stir after the seven counterclockwise stirs.
