Also known as Royal Staff, Asphodel is a rather picky member of the lily family which requires special and well-drained soil. There are sixteen types of asphodel and they each have slightly different requirements. Although not native to the UK, they are grown at Hogwarts School, and 7th year students learn about them in classes.

Powdered root of asphodel is used in the Wiggenweld Potion and Draught of the Living Death.
