Also known as the Hyena tree, Alihotsy are a species of magical tree. Their leaves induce hysteria, so are used in both the Laughing Potion and Alihotsy Draught. They are also used in the Memory Potion. As they induce uncontrollable laughter, their effect is usually combatted with Glumbumble treacle.

They are also used to make Alihotsy-flavoured fudge; an allergic reaction to this killed Minister of Magic Wilhelmina Tuft in 1959.
