The Slowing Charm, sometimes called the Braking Charm, is a spell used to slow or stop objects. It was taught in 2nd and 5th Year at Hogwarts School. It was invented by Daisy Pennifold in 1711 to slow dropped Quaffles to help Chasers catch them mid-air more easily. It was also placed on racing brooms to allow the flyer to brake faster.
