The Lethifold was also known as the 'Living Shroud'. These dark creatures hunt their prey at night, suffocating many targets while they sleep. The Lethifold is carnivorous, with a particular liking for human flesh. The only known spell to repel these creatures is the Patronus Charm, with other charms for fighting them off being ineffective.
The Lethifold glides around like a floating black cape - not unlike the dementor visually. These capes are pretty thin looking (roughly half an inch), but they tend to thicken up right after a meal.
The only person to have survived a Lethifold attack was a wizard by the name of Flavius Belby (1782, Papa New Guinea). He cast a Patronus Charm mid-attack and was the only one the Lethifold had attacked that night who survived.
