Dittany was a magical plant used predominantly in healing. Essence of dittany could be applied to skin, and eating the plant could heal small wounds, including some Curse wounds. When mixed with silver, it could prevent someone dying from a werewolf bite, but not prevent them contracting lycanthropy.

The plant also releases a flammable vapour; for this reason, it is sometimes nicknamed 'Burning Bush'.
