The Cure for Boils was used to remove boils, whether they occur naturally, or artificially via the Pimple Jinx. This was one of the first potions taught to 1st year students at Hogwarts School.
There are several variants of the recipe for this potion available, depending on your source. The recipe from Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger involves two parts: first, 6 snake fangs should be crushed finely, then 4 measures added to the cauldron. This should be heated to 250 for 10 seconds, then wave your wand, then leave to brew for 33-45 minutes. The second part involved adding 4 horned slugs, then taking the cauldron off the fire before adding 2 porcupine quills. Then, five clockwise stirs, and a final wave of your wand to complete the potion.
The Book of Potions by Zygmunt Budge uses a slightly different recipe, completed in one part rather than two. The crushed snake fangs should be added and stirred, then finely sliced pungous onions. The mixture should be heated, then dried nettles and a dash of flobberworm mucus before stirring vogorously. Then, a sprinkle of powdered ginger root, followed by more vigorous stirring. Next, pickled Shrake spines should be stirred in gently, followed by a glug of stewed horned slugs and the porcupine quills, and a final wave of the wand to complete the potion.
