Andromeda Tonks (née Black) was a Pure-blood witch of the Black family, the middle sister of Narcissa and Bellatrix. Although sorted into Slytherin House, she rejected her family's Pure-blood ideals and married a Muggle-born, Ted Tonks, for love. She was disowned by her family as a result.

The couple had a daughter, Nymphadora Tonks, who married Remus Lupin and went on to have a son, Edward Lupin. Andromeda's husband was murdered by Snatchers during the Second Wizarding War, and her daughter and son-in-law were killed during the Battle of Hogwarts. After the war, she raised her grandson with help from Harry Potter, named Teddy's godfather.

Andromeda was born in the 1950s, the middle child of Cygnus and Druella Black, with Bellatrix her older sister, and Narcissa the youngest. She was very close to her sisters throughout her childhood and Hogwarts years. In her First Year, she met Ted Tonks after a potions mishap and they started dating.

After she graduated and married Ted Tonks, she was disowned by her family and cut off as a blood traitor. In 1973, the couple had Nymphadora Tonks. Despite being cut off from the family, Andromeda kept the contents of their family keepsake box safe.

During the Second Wizarding War, Andromeda and Ted were sympathetic to the Order of the Phoenix, allowing Harry Potter and Rubeus Hagrid to stay with them while Andromeda healed Hagrid's wounds. The safehouse protections fell when Voldemort took over the Ministry, and Andromeda and Ted were tortured for information, but gave up nothing.

When Ted refused to register his Muggle-born status, he went on the run, but was captured and killed by Snatchers. Her daughter, Nymphadora, was killed by Bellatrix during the Battle of Hogwarts, and Remus Lupin, her son-in-law, was killed by Antonin Dolohov during the same battle.

After the war, Andromeda raised Teddy Lupin, her grandson, with help from Harry Potter, who was Teddy's godfather.
