Today's topic is the... Augurey!

What does the creature look like?

The Augurey has quite a colourful appearance. It is a rather large bird but has always been considered to look thin and underfed, much like the muggle vultures. Its colours were a mix of green and black, making it possible for them to be both rather colourful, but also rather grey. Their eye colour is blue and is a great contrast to the usual dark colours it wears.

What is its abilities?

The most important ability for the bird - and what it has become most well-known for - is the fact that it screams when rain approaches. Years ago, it was actively believed that the Augurey senses when someone was going to die or when someone had died, making people believe that when their Augurey was crying and screaming, it meant that they were soon to die. Stories of this were found in the book "Why I Didn't Cry When The Augurey Cried" by Gulliver Pokeby.

Where does it usually live?

It originated in England and Ireland, but the bird quickly spread to Northern Europe too. It is not found in many other places, but since it can be held as a pet, it might be seen in other countries and regions too. How well would it be to hold as a pet?

How well would it be to hold as a pet?

Now, the Augurey is an interesting pet to have, cause it is already a pet in many witch and wizard homes. It is a relatively calm bird, that seems to be able to learn tricks much like other birds. While it does eat unusual stuff, like fairies and flies, these can easily be obtained on different markets. The largest problem with having an Augurey is that it screams when rain is approaching, and when living in England or Ireland, this means that it is going to be crying a lot. The Augurey is also believed the be a smart bird, despite it being shy. It is the perfect pet to have as an only pet, but it still needs you to be there to play with it and activate it - you can not just leave it alone at home for a couple of days. Therefore, the Augurey is the perfect pet for a person who might be living alone and spend plenty of time at home.
