Meet the Staff
Astrid Beckett
Hello everyone! Welcome to Meet the Staff! In this weekly blog series, I'll be interviewing our amazing members of staff here at WoP EU, giving you the chance to get to know them all a little better. Without our hard-working staff team, we wouldn't have any lessons, articles, plots, competitions, books, clubs or rules to keep our site running. There's some incredible human beings behind the screens here, so it's time we found out some more about them!

We're starting at the very top this week, with our very own Minister for Magic, Dirtsa Astrid Beckett! Astrid has been the MoM of EU for about a year now, and before that, she served as Headmistress and Library Leader right the way back to the dawn of mankind. She's been part of the Management team since 2018, and I'm sure we can all agree that she's getting very very old :P
If you were to attend Hogwarts in real life, which class do you think you’d do the best at? Which would you enjoy?
Excellent question hmmmm... You know what, I think I'd do quite well at Flying. I have rather good balance and pick things up like that quite quickly so I reckon I could do solidly in that! Or perhaps Potions, I'm super good at following instructions hehe. I have a feeling I would enjoy Care of Magical Creatures the most however, I love animals.
Those are some good choices :P especially Potions! I'm definitely not biased! For our next question, which character from the Harry Potter books do you relate to the most and why?
Now I had to think rather long about this because somehow it has never occurred to me to think about an answer! I think I have landed on relating the most to Minerva McGonagall because I often feel annoyed at decisions people in my life make or behaviour they have because I tend to feel like I know what will happen won't be what they expect and I don't get why they don't get that, but at the same time I love them unconditionally and would burn the world down to protect them and McGonagall has that same vibe I reckon. She is constantly annoyed by her students and the staff around her but she literally fought like hell to protect them all - silent love and fierce loyalty and all that pretty much sums me up :D
Oooh that's a good shout! McGonagall is definitely very protective! Next up: what’s your proudest accomplishment that you’d like to share with us all? (Can either be related to WoP or not, it’s up to you!)
My proudest accomplishment is probably just learning to unapologetically be myself and feeling good about it. I spent a long time thinking there was something wrong with me because I didn't quite fit in right when I was younger, but as I've grown up and experienced the world more, and spent time on here, which has been a huge part of that, I really have learnt to be completely okay with being myself without caring what other people think about that and I'm pretty proud of that!
It's so freeing when you realise you can literally just be yourself :3 that's awesome! If you had to pick your perfect meal (a main course, a dessert and a drink), what would you choose and why?
A full beef roast dinner hands down. mash, roast potatoes, yorkshire pud, parsnips, carrots, stuffing balls, hell of a lot of red wine gravy - perfect main course. Drink would have to be pepsi max (I live off the stuff - there is one in my hand right now), and a hot chocolate fudge cake with some ice cream for dessert which I really think speaks for itself...
That sounds divine... especially the fudge cake. Final question: what would your ideal house be like? Eg., would it be in the city or the countryside? A sprawling mansion or a cosy cottage? Colourful and messy, or tidy and organised?
I like to think I will end up living near to the coast somewhere, with at least a short drive to a city with more going on. I adore the sea and the beach and all things coastal so I'd love to live at the coast. I don't think I would like a big house, just something small and cosy, and definitely tidy, but the one thing I do know I definitely want is a library room in my house. You best believe it would be the cosiest little library room ever with one of those big comfy chairs for reading in - my book collection is growing by the minute just waiting for that library...
Omg reading books by the beach sounds like the best thing ever, I'd love to live there too xD
And there we have it! Thank you so much to Astrid for taking part this week - hopefully she decides to give us all cake by the beach one day :V

See you in next week's edition!
