Hello there! Welcome to Desert Island Discoveries! If you've heard of 'Desert Island Discs' then you might have an idea of what this blog post is about. If not, then you're in for a treat! Each week, I'll be interviewing a user on the site, presenting a situation to them: you're trapped on a desert island with no broom or wand, and no sign of civilisation. Your only choice is to await rescue. What song, book, and item would you like to have to make the wait more bearable?
Our first castaway for this blog is none other than Soleil Winters!
If there's one thing I know, it's that it won't be Vivaldi's 'Spring' (thanks, Flora). Everyone knows I have an unhealthy obsession with rock music, so it would probably be something with enough bass to make my teeth rattle - and hopefully disturb the local fauna enough to attract help, whether it's Muggle or magical.
I have to admit, I'm not a particularly keen reader, probably because I was always given boring, non-fiction books to read about magic. Could I bring a copy of the newspaper instead of a book? I think that would do nicely! Riggs has done wonderful things as Chief Editor and his articles are much more entertaining than a book on gillyweed.
You might be surprised to learn that it won't be my Pensieve! Although one of the more valuable things I own, it's not exactly helpful without the memories it stores - although in that case, I'd have a lifetime of entertainment (literally). I would be able to admire my reflection in the water, so my item would have to be a comb. Ideally one of those lovely ones that makes my hair sleek and shiny - I think I'd need it with all that salt air and water!
Thanks to Soleil for being our first victim! What do you think of his choices? Do you want to be the next castaway? Just leave a comment below or send me an owl!
