Welcome to a new blog with yours truly! This series will introduce some of the filming locations used to create the Harry Potter films, exploring how the team behind the films made these locations into something truly magical! Our first stop on this tour is King's Cross Station, where the journey begins!

King's Cross Station was opened on 14th October 1852, and has been in use ever since, albeit with several redevelopments over the years.

Filming for the Harry Potter series actually took place in the station, although with a few alterations made! The wall between Platform 9 and 10 isn't actually there, and that's because the films shot here - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - were actually filmed between Platforms 4 and 5!

  • Although Platform 9 & 10 doesn't have the wall to run through, nor is it accessible unless you have a ticket, the station have a photo opportunity set up for fans, conveniently next door to the Harry Potter Shop!
  • The scene where Hagrid and Harry walk over the bridge in the station was actually filmed in York Station!
  • When writing the books, J.K. Rowling mistook King's Cross Station for Euston Station, and has said that that's the reason the book descriptions don't quite match the real thing!

That's all for this week - stay tuned for the next edition to explore more filming locations and learn more about how the Harry Potter films were created! Have you ever visited King's Cross Station, or maybe you've been inspired to take a trip there now? Let us know in the comments!
